Companies continue to struggle with the fact that employees don’t know ‘who knows whom, who knows what, and ‘where to find content.’ To solve this, they have spent the past few decades deploying Intranets and document-centric portals, but years and millions of dollars later employees still aren’t finding the content they need fast enough with these tools.

Then one day Facebook and Linkedin came along and suddenly everybody in the world, with no training, is connected to their colleagues, knows what they’re doing and what they’re interested in. They’re instantly plugged in to the information they want from an easy-to-use application.

CEOs, COOs, CIOs, HR and Knowledge Management Executives want this sort of easy-to-access knowledge sharing within their company. The trick is it must be private. A private enterprise social network is now seen as the Holy Grail of collaboration—the killer productivity, mobility, and IP management solution companies have been looking for. They need to be able to manage their data in the cloud or in house, have it available on all devices and easily bring in information from their other business systems. It’s about more effectively engaging employees with one another and the information they need.

The value of social business is that with very little training, your employees will be connected to ‘who knows whom,’ ‘who knows what,’ and ‘what is where,’ from a browser window, their email or any mobile device. They’ll instantly receive the information they need without having to search for it or run reports. Social business simply lets you get more work done faster and increases your organization effectiveness.

According to a Foxconn recruiter, we’ll see a new iPhone in June of this year.

The recruiter suggested the iPhone would be headed our way this summer in an interview with TV Tokyo’s “World Business Satellite” broadcast Monday.

In the interview, a reporter asked the recruiter how many people the company was looking to hire, and he answered “We’re looking for 18,000 employees … for the fifth-generation phone.”

The reporter went on to clarify that the recruiter was talking about the iPhone 5, and the recruiter added that the next generation of the handset will come out in June.

The iPhone 5 — or, if Apple maintains the naming scheme it started with the iPad, the “new iPhone” — will actually be the 6th iPhone released by the company.

After the the initial iPhone release, the company launched an iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and iPhone 4S.

The June rumor, of course, should be taken with a grain of salt. Rumors of the iPhone 5 started almost immediately after the announcement of the iPhone 4S last year.

Current rumors have the device’s launch pinned between June and October, with many speculating that the next generation will be LTE-capable to run on carrier’s new speedy data networks.

Are any of you looking forward to the release of the iPhone 5 or “new iPhone”? Tell us what you’d like to see in the next-generation handset in the comments.

A list of current release numbers and recent enhancements to our Language products is available. Remember, if you are on a software assurance contract you can upgrade to the latest release at any time at no additional cost. If you are upgrading to a new major release number, you will need to request an upgraded SSN by emailing ssn@dynamic.com.

The current version of Unibasic is 9.4

Recent enhancements include:

The Indexes in encrypted Indexed-Contiguous files can now be encrypted.

An improved version of the emulated message queue system for Apple Mac OS X.

The current version of dL4 is 9.5

Recent enhancements include:

When using dL4Term 9.4 or dL4 for Windows, GUI screens and image files can be compiled into resource files and displayed using the ‘SCRIPT’ mnemonic to simplify programming and improve performance.

When using dL4Term or dL4 for Windows, files can be automatically downloaded when used in SYSTEM 31 statements. SYSTEM 31 statements allow your application to launch a local Windows application, such as the browser, Word, Excel or PDF viewer. For example, a single SYSTEM 31 statement can both download a PDF file and start a PDF reader to display the file.

dL4 GUI programming has been extended with grid-like displays, image buttons, and tool tip text.

When using dL4Term 9.4, programs can print to text files on the client system (local PC disk).

Indexes in Indexed Contiguous files can now be encrypted along with the data records.

Additional database systems are being supported. An optional driver is available to access or update UniData or UniVerse databases.

The DL4CNTL utility makes it possible to reliably use SAN snapshots of dL4 data files. This allows you to temporarily ‘freeze’ your dL4 data files to make a backup snapshot. Users can continue working and are unaware of the process, file writes will be queued until the ‘freeze’ is removed. This utility allows you to make reliable backups throughout the day without interrupting users.

dynamicXport 3.1 is now available. This is a major release change and requires a new SSN to activate.

Enhancements include:

Browser based file definitions and dL4 file handling library code generation module. Have a central repository of all your Indexed Contiguous file layouts that is accessible and maintained through the browser. Browser based utilities use the file definitions to allow you to query any data in Indexed-Contiguous files for display, print or export to .csv (Excel) or XML format. A library of file access routines can be code generated for each file and imbedded in your custom applications, reducing the amount of code to be written. The generated libraries can be used to log all file changes into an historical audit log file.

UTF-8 web pages can be used to support additional languages.

DynamicPage module allows you to design basic web pages for file maintenance and user prompts. DynamicXport dynamically generates html pages from Page Block Definitions for user prompts, file tables and file maintenance.

DynamicPaper archiving, DynamicNotice and DynamicPage modules are unprotected to allow customization.

DynamicPaper supports an ActiveX control for document scanning when using Internet Explorer. This allows internal or external users to scan locally and upload documents to a centralized archiving system.

DynamicPaper supports multiple subtypes within folders allowing for more granular filing of archived documents.

Paypal Payflow Pro interface is updated to version 4.3+.

dynamicPaper 1.4 for Unix and Linux is now available.

Enhancements include:

Embedded JetPCL for PDF conversion is updated to version 9.

Color printing is supported (except in PDF files).

Additional Windows printer drivers are supported for creating form overlay files.

As always, we are interested in hearing from our developers what future enhancements would be useful to them to develop more effectively and provide robust applications for their customers and users. Don’t hesitate to submit requests for product enhancements.

We also have experienced developers on staff available to help you meet your development objectives sooner rather than later, please don’t hesitate to call on us assist you with custom development projects. This includes Unibasic, dL4, ODBC, SQL, DynamicPaper forms and archiving, DynamicXport browser access, Web Services, SOAP/XML transactions, and iPhone and iPad app development.

Also, remember to visit our LinkedIn group for Unibasic/dL4 developers to stay in touch with the community.
