How do I get to my files to or from Dynamic's server?
There are several ways to send and receive files to our servers. To transfer files you need a program that handles File Transfer Protocol (FTP). There are several programs that are dedicated to FTP such as SmartFTP and WS FTP. Web Development software such as Dreamweaver also enable you to FTP files to and from a server. Each of these programs has detailed instructions on connecting to a remote server using the login and password that we provide.
You can even connect to an FTP site using Windows. Click here to read the instructions on Microsoft's website.

How is bandwidth calculated on my bill?
Dynamic monitor's bandwidth usage by each client to ensure your activity is normal and to guarantee that sufficient bandwidth is available when you need it. We measure and bill for bandwidth using a method called the 95th percentile, which is the highest sustained amount of traffic, after the peak utilization of 5% is removed from the throughput over the month. It basically allows high usage for brief periods of time without financial penalty.
Like utility bills, bandwidth usage can increase suddenly without notice. We try to alert you when your bandwidth levels increase substantially, so you can either make adjustments or let us know if there is a problem that might be causing the activity. Bandwidth statistics can be viewed at anytime showing daily, monthly and annual activity. You may view these reports at http://bandwidth.dynamic.net or in the Client Login section of www.dynamic.com.
Bandwidth is priced using one of two methods – Burstable or Sustained. The Burstable method charges you for your exact usage and has no quantity commitment. The Sustained method charges a lower price per unit, but you are charged for a specific amount of bandwidth even if you actually use less. We charge a lower price for these commitments as it allows us to commit to our providers. Burstable costs more because we have to maintain sufficient excess bandwidth to meet the needs of all of our customers.
To manage your bandwidth costs, it is best to purchase sustained bandwidth in advance based on the historical 95% percentile reports to match your business / site growth. Conversely, burstable bandwidth is more expensive as it is charged after the activity has taken place. For example, if you purchase 500Kbps (five hundred thousand bits per second) of sustained bandwidth the cost is $150.00 dollars a month. For the same amount of bandwidth purchased after the activity took place is classified as "burstable" and charged at $.50 per kb/s = $250.00, a variance of $100.00.
| Tier Sustained Bandwidth Rates |
| 5 to 4 MB of Sustained |
$250.00 per MB |
| 3 to 1 MB of Sustained |
$300.00 per MB |
| 500 kb/s of Sustained |
$150.00 per kb/s |
| Tier Sustained Bandwidth Rates |
| 5 to 4 MB of Sustained |
If you anticipate increase use of bandwidth, please contact us so that we can move your account/server to the next sustained tier and avoid bustable bandwidth rates. When sustained bandwidth usage is noted for two (2) or more consecutive months, we will automatically advance your account to the next higher plan level and bill accordingly.
We value your business and hope we make it easy to take advantage of technology in order to make a better decision in growing your Internet business.

How do I change the WHOIS information for my domain?
In order to change the DNS information for your domains, you will need to login with our domain registrar, Tucows. We can have the registrar email your domain login to the administrative contact for the domain so it is important for this information to stay current. Use the domain authentication information that is sent to you to login here: https://manage.opensrs.net/
If you don't have the domain login and no longer have access to the email address listed as the administrative contact you will need a new login. In order to get the login for your domains you will need to go through the registrar’s authentication process at this site:
http://www.adminchange.com
On the site click the link that says, “All other Admin Change requests please click here.” This will take you to a form which you will need to fill in with the administrator’s information, print, and fax to the registrar with the required identification. Once the registrar has verified the identification, it will send a login for the domain.

My site is slow! What's going on?
There may be some problems in the network connection between your computer and the servers here. To test this can you do two things on your end.
- First open a command prompt (in Windows click 'Start', select 'Run', type 'cmd', and click 'OK'). At the command prompt enter, "pathping yourdomain.com". This will take a minute or so to show the hops that the data takes and compute the route statistics. Once the trace is complete copy the output by right clicking the command window, selecting 'Mark', selecting the output text, and then right clicking again and selecting 'Copy'. Paste that output into your support ticket to us.
- Second open your web browser and go to http://myipaddress.com. This will tell you your computer's IP address so that we can perform a similar trace back to your office.
These two traces should help us determine where the lag is occurring.

How to test your connection before calling Dynamic.
There are a number of tools you can use to test network connectivity. Here are three of them.
Traceroute is a method of tracing hops or computers between you and the networked computer you are trying to reach.
Ping is a basic Internet program that lets you verify that a particular Internet address exists and can accept requests. The verb ping means the act of using the ping utility or command. Ping is used diagnostically to ensure that a host computer you are trying to reach is actually operating.
Pathping is a network utility supplied in Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows XP. It combines the functionality of Ping with that of Traceroute (in Windows: tracert), by providing details of the path between two hosts and Ping-like statistics for each node in the path based on samples taken over a time period, depending on how many nodes are between the start and end host.
This site has useful tools such as ping and traceroute.
http://www.dnsstuff.com/
You can traceroute from servers all over the world, not just one location. Here are a list of traceroute servers you can use.
http://traceroute.org/
You can also test from your office network or computer in Windows.
- Start -> run -> type ‘cmd’
- In the command prompt type ‘ping www.yourdomain.com’
- To traceroute type ‘tracert www.yourdomain.com’
- To pathping type ‘pathping www.yourdomain.com’
