  dL4 Version 5 -  UniBasic/IMS Compatibility

dL4 Version 5, scheduled for release in the second quarter, enters beta testing this month.  This new release offers compelling reasons to migrate your existing UniBasic and IMS applications now:
  • Compatibility features, options and utilities to migrate from UniBasic or IMS to dL4
  • MySQL driver adds relational database drivers to Linux and Unix systems
  • Multi-Sessions - use dL4Term to launch multiple Unix or Windows dL4 sessions on a PC without paying the full price for additional dL4 users
  • Modern platform makes it easier to hire and retain developers
  • GUI and web technologies simplify the enhancement of your core applications

FOR THE TECHNICAL CROWD:

dL4 Version 5 is designed to allow you to quickly and painlessly move existing applications to the dL4 development platform.  We have gone to great lengths to make this version compatible with existing UniBasic and IMS applications.  In short, we have added the following functionality:
  • All documented UniBasic CALLs in the UniBasic 6/7 manuals
  • Many undocumented calls, such as $MONITOR and $WHOLOCK
  • IMS Calls, along with an INCLUDE source-level compile option
  • Legacy Utilities such as: QUERY, LIBR, KEYMAINT and COPY
  • LUST support, facilitating searching multiple directories for programs and files
  • Access to data files which contain packed data
  • Support for ERM( ) function
  • Support for Hagen Basic strings
  • Conversion auto declares DEF FN functions used in a program prior to the definition
  • Conversion fixes GOTO/GOSUB to non-existent line numbers
Once migrated to dL4, you are ready to take advantage of all of the modern development features to remain competitive with your applications.  Enhance your applications to take advantage of any or all of the following new features:
  • Add GUI list boxes, radio buttons and menus to your existing applications on either Unix or Windows.
  • Deploy your applications on Windows 2000, NT, 98, ME and XP
  • Our bridge technology allows existing applications to seamlessly map record layouts to databases, including FoxPro, MS/SQL or MySQL
  • Use network socket technology to communicate, mine data and/or pass information between systems, locally or over the Internet
  • Use dynamicXport to web-enable your applications
2002 is the year to migrate your applications to dL4.  Save coding time and enhance your ability to find and retain programmers who need modern platforms on which to develop.
