March 1, 1995: Passport Security

Passport Security has been established as a separate product to facilitate its independent development and use by multiple DCI products.

Newer products such as UniBasic-IQ3 and UniBasic-NexGen no longer contain duplicative code to handle the entry and/or changing of an SSN. A new, independent ssnmaint utility provides this needed functionality. Use the ssnmaint utility anytime to view your current SSN and the associated features enabled on your system.

Passport 3.3 includes several new applications such as ppstresstest. This utility allows you to run a diagnostic on the hardware passport device.

Passport 3.3 is available on media or for download for all Group 1 platforms: Altos, SCO, IBM RS/6000 and Motorola 88K. Download using "/usr/dist/xx/passport/3.3.Z" where xx is the Platform ID Code. Other platforms are available on request.

A separate manual covering security, hardware passport device issues, installation and trouble-shooting is available.

UniBasic 5.3 is still bundled with an older version of Passport Security which is sufficient only for UniBasic and UniBasic-IQ2 installations.

To operate UniBasic-NexGen or UniBasic-IQ3 on a current UniBasic system, you must install Passport 3.x. If you are performing a new UniBasic installation, install Passport 3.x last so that it will update the version bundled with UniBasic. If you do not do this, NexGen and/or IQ3 will not run properly.
