May 1, 1995: AIX 4.1 IBM RS/6000 and PowerPC

Version 4.1 of AIX was released for IBM's current line of Power Systems. AIX 4.1 is also available for PowerPC systems offered by IBM and others including Motorola.

After substantial research and timing tests, DCI concluded that 2 separate platforms best serve the performance needs of our community.

DCI is introducing platform 07 for all PowerPC systems running AIX 4.1. Do not attempt to install DCI products labeled under platform 72 IBM RS/6000 on PowerPC systems.

DCI is renumbering platform 72 to 29 for AIX 4.1 compatibility. 29 is AIX 4.1 aware and operates on either AIX 3.x or 4.1. Existing IBM RS/6000 sites can easily upgrade to 29 without conversion.

If you subscribe to DCI's maintenance for 72, you will receive notification on the availability of 29 and free upgrades for your in-house system(s).

DCI will port the latest version of the following products to platforms 07 and 29: UniBasic 5.3x, IQ 2.x, IQ 3.x, IMT 2.x and NexGen 1.x.

DCI extends a special THANK YOU to Peter Alexander of Landmark Computer Systems and Bill Farrell of Fiscal Information for their patience, equipment arrangements, contacts and tireless assistance in the completion of this project.

When running DCI products on AIX 4.1 PowerPC systems, you must use platform 07. Do not install platform 72 products on these systems. If you've installed on the wrong platform, contact DCI for a no-charge replacement immediately.

Upgrades of existing sites from platform 72 to 29 should be considered only when performing major user upgrades, such as UniBasic 5, IQ3, NexGen or AIX 4.
