April 1999: dL4 Version 4 Beta

DCI is pleased to announce the first beta release of dL4 version 4, which may be downloaded from our web site, www.unibasic.com. This beta release is available for the Windows platform and is provided so that customers can evaluate the new Graphical User Interface (GUI) programming features of dL4.

A release 4 SSN is required. If you already have an SSN for dL4 Windows, contact sales@dynamic.com to obtain an update. Version 4 SSN's will operate earlier versions. Free updates are available to dL4 Windows resellers, as well as customers covered by Software Assurance on a dL4 Windows license.

If you do not have an existing license, you may use the following demonstration SSN, provided that you agree to the terms and conditions contained within the license.txt supplied with the beta distribution.

dL4 version 4 beta introduces true GUI programming, such as buttons, edit and list boxes and mixing multiple fonts. The beta version contains the following new mnemonics for GUI programming:

The SAVE file revision has been changed from 2.8 to 2.9 in order to support new statements in dL4 4.1. Full upward compatibility is provided, so that program files created by earlier versions of dL4 can still be used. Programs created by this release of dL4 cannot be used by earlier releases of dL4.

In addition to GUI programming, this beta version supports enhanced line, box and ellipse drawing to windows, as well as filenames and paths with spaces.

This beta version does not contain the full feature set planned for dL4 version 4. Other new features, such as socket and e-mail drivers, will be available in subsequent beta releases. In addition, a dL4 Terminal Emulator will be released to allow dL4 applications running on SCO, AIX, and other Unix systems to use the full GUI features without installing individual dL4 Window PC licenses.
