There are a number of tools you can use to test network connectivity. Here are three of them.

Traceroute is a method of tracing hops or computers between you and the networked computer you are trying to reach.

Ping is a basic Internet program that lets you verify that a particular Internet address exists and can accept requests. The verb ping means the act of using the ping utility or command. Ping is used diagnostically to ensure that a host computer you are trying to reach is actually operating.

Pathping is a network utility supplied in Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows XP. It combines the functionality of Ping with that of Traceroute (in Windows: tracert), by providing details of the path between two hosts and Ping-like statistics for each node in the path based on samples taken over a time period, depending on how many nodes are between the start and end host.

This site has useful tools such as ping and traceroute.

You can traceroute from servers all over the world, not just one location. Here are a list of traceroute servers you can use.

You can also test from your office network or computer in Windows.

  1. Start -> run -> type ‘cmd’
  2. In the command prompt type ‘ping www.yourdomain.com
  3. To traceroute type ‘tracert www.yourdomain.com
  4. To pathping type ‘pathping www.yourdomain.com

There may be some problems in the network connection between your computer and the servers here. To test this can you do two things on your end.

  1. First open a command prompt (in Windows click 'Start', select 'Run', type 'cmd', and click 'OK'). At the command prompt enter, "pathping yourdomain.com". This will take a minute or so to show the hops that the data takes and compute the route statistics.  Once the trace is complete copy the output by right clicking the command window, selecting 'Mark', selecting the output text, and then right clicking again and selecting 'Copy'. Paste that output into your support ticket to us.
  2. Second open your web browser and go to http://myipaddress.com. This will tell you your computer's IP address so that we can perform a similar trace back to your office.

These two traces should help us determine where the lag is occurring.

You can come in whenever is convenient to change out equipment, however we ask that you make an appointment 24 hours in advance so that we can get the proper paperwork ready.
