Release Dates Announced for ODBC, dL4 & UniBasic

UNIBASIC - DL4 - ODBC: RELEASE DATE - SEPTEMBER 9, 2005

The following production releases will be available for download from www.dynamic.com on Friday, September 9, 2005:

UniBasic 8 * | dL4 version 6 * | Passport 4 | dynamicXport 3 * | dynamicPaper | ODBC *

* Requires Passport 4.1 and a new SSN. Initial releases include SCO Open Server 5, Open Server 6 / Unixware 7, Linux and Windows. Versions for AIX, Apple OSX (Tiger), HP/UX and Solaris will be ported in the weeks following the release. Further information, including release notes, can be found on our website.

The new revisions include many new features, as well as integration with Dynamic ODBC. This new capability allows any ODBC-compliant application, such as Crystal Reports, Microsoft Access, etc. to read data from your UniBasic and dL4 databases. The ability to write to UniBasic/dL4 databases will be introduced in a subsequent release, allowing other development tools to be used alongside your existing applications. These releases also include a license for dynamicPaper, a Laser Printer form processing and report archiving system.

Sunset for Hardware Passport Devices

The delivery of new hardware passport devices will be phased out in the coming months, commencing with the next release of Passport. The updated version will include an on-line licensing system, along with continued support for the traditional software / hardware passport options. Should a replacement license ever be required, the on-line software is capable of automatically obtaining and installing a new SSN, 24/7/365.

New Platform for SCO Open Server 6 (OS6)

The Unixware platform (55) has been renamed SCO OS 6 & UW 7 and now supports the complete functionality of both SCO Open Server 6 (OS6) and Unixware 7, including files >2GB. OS6 requires Passport version 4.1 or higher, however older versions of UniBasic, dL4, etc. for Unixware may be installed on OS6. To run on OS6, you must download the appropriate installation kits. Because OS6 is a different platform, you cannot mix products compiled for SCO Unix/OS5 with those for OS6.

Products for platform (99) SCO Open Server 5 will continue to be delivered and supported for the foreseeable future. However, Open Server 5 versions of UniBasic, dL4, etc. are not supported on OS6. When upgrading or installing OS6, you must use the new (55) SCO OS6 & UW7 versions of Dynamic's software products. Older, traditionally non-portable, data files and UniBasic programs created on Open Server 5 are compatible with OS6 and do not require conversion.

Support, Upgrades, Prices & Promotions

On August 31, 2005, support will be discontinued for the following older revisions: UniBasic 6, dL4 version 4 and dynamicXport 1. IQ for Windows is being replaced by ODBC, however IQ for Unix remains a supported product line.

Licenses covered by Software Assurance are entitled to upgrades and platform changes at no charge. In addition, no license fees are required when purchasing a new server or performing major operating system upgrades. If you purchased an upgrade for UniBasic or dL4 in 2005, you may add a one-year Software Assurance subscription at the regular price of 10% of the cost of your license.

Otherwise, when upgrading to a new release of UniBasic, dL4 or dynamicXport, a license fee equal to 25% of the price of an equivalent new license is charged to upgrade from the previous revision, or 50% of the price when upgrading from earlier versions.

Through March 2006, a special promotion is available for customers upgrading from SCO OS5 to OS6. Under this promotion, an upgrade from OS5 to OS6 is NOT considered a new platform. Upgrade any version of uniBasic or dL4 for 25% of the price of a new license, add Software Assurance for 10% of the price of the license and agree to a minimum three (3) year Software Assurance renewal and migrate to OS6 at no additional charge.

Licensing Considerations

The uniBasic and dL4 license agreements require your system to be licensed for the most recent release of Dynamic software whenever you install a major operating system upgrade or replace/upgrade your server, unless your license is covered by Software Assurance. You may choose to remain on older versions of the software, but the upgrade license fee must be paid or your license is no longer valid.

Licenses authorized for UniBasic 8 or dL4 version 6 are entitled to use dynamicPaper and the Dynamic ODBC server and client modules, at no additional charge. Passport 4.1 is required, however you may continue to run earlier versions of UniBasic or dL4 along with these new products. The ODBC license is read-only and intended for use by 'internal users', as defined in the license agreements. On new or upgraded licenses, the number of free ODBC users shall be 1/8 of the number of UniBasic or dL4 users. Additional ODBC users may be purchased at the same prices as in effect for IQ runtime users. Excess IQ users may be exchanged for ODBC users at no additional charge.

IQ 5 (for Windows) will be discontinued, effective August 31, 2005. Customers upgrading UniBasic or dL4, or those whose server is covered by Software Assurance may trade in IQ Windows licenses for an equal number of ODBC users, at no charge.

Additional UniBasic, dL4 or ODBC user license fees, or the purchase of dynamicXport is required to provide access to UniBasic, dL4 or ODBC from a web server, web or Internet application, or for the delivery of data intended for other than 'internal users', as outlined in the product license agreements. Traditional concurrent user licenses are restricted for use only by a companies 'internal users'. For additional information on deployment and licensing, contact sales@dynamic.com
