UnIBasic & dL4 Disaster Recovery Servers
Dynamic Concepts introduces a truly affordable disaster recovery option for UniBasic and dL4 installations. Synchronize your important UniBasic / dL4 applications and data to your own dedicated server hosted in Dynamic's data center. We include everything you need to run your business applications remotely, should the need arise.
Monthly pricing is $50, plus 2% of the retail price of the UniBasic / dL4 license running on your primary server. The price includes your own dedicated server, 500MB of disk space per user, RedHat Enterprise, UniBasic, dL4, IQ, ODBC, bandwidth, backup and off-site rotation of your data to Iron Mountain. For example, an 8-user server with 4GB of disk space costs $98/month; 16-user, 8GB $129; and 32-user, 16GB for $185/month. *
How Can We Offer Such a Comprehensive Solution so Inexpensively ?
Dynamic has deployed a sophisticated architecture that allows customers to "share" the costs of maintaining off-site disaster recovery servers. Instead of acquiring a complete server, including maintenance, software, etc., capable of handling your entire user load (and then paying for it to sit idle), Dynamic provides each customer a secure, private, dedicated virtual server with minimal CPU and memory resources assigned to it on a normal basis. The server is up 24/7/365 and has the necessary resources to support secure daily synchronization from your primary server, as well as multi-user testing at all times.
Upon notification, your server may be assigned additional CPU and memory resources, as required, to fully support your user and database loads. These assignments are based upon the number of UniBasic/dL4 users licensed on your system and would be similar to the configuration of your primary server.
Dynamic's Dedicated Virtual Server Platform
Wikipedia defines a virtual server as: "A virtual private server (also referred to as Virtual Dedicated Server) is a method of partitioning a physical server computer into multiple servers such that each has the appearance and capabilities of running on its own dedicated machine. Each virtual server can run its own full-fledged operating system, and each server can be independently rebooted" - see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_private_server
At Dynamic, each virtual server is assigned to a physical server within a cluster of Quad-Core-2 Blade servers, connected via fiber channel to large RAID/5 SAN storage devices. Within the cluster, the amount of CPU and memory resources assigned to a specific server can be changed almost instantaneously. This allows us to upgrade your server to support user loads quickly, either for routine large-scale testing or an actual disaster.
Data on the storage devices is backed up and rotated off-site each week to Iron Mountain on a 12-month rotation cycle.
Your dedicated virtual server at Dynamic is totally isolated and unaware of other servers on the same physical hardware or network and has its own operating system, UniBasic, dL4, SSN / OSN, memory, IP address, disk space, file systems and passwords.
