Dynamic Concepts Announces Major dL4 and dL4Term Upgrades

Dynamic Concepts announces the immediate availability of Version 9 of its popular dL4 development environment and dL4Term GUI terminal emulator. dL4 version 9 replaces version 7 as the default download on our website. And yes, we skipped version 8 so as to align the release numbers of dL4 and UniBasic.

As announced in June 2008, new, upgrade or replacement licenses can be requested for a combined UniBasic/dL4 product (UBDL4) and should be ordered on any system on which you have installed UniBasic 9, and/or dL4 version 7 or higher. A 16-user UBDL4 license supports 16-users spread across both languages. With the new installation procedure, you can easily install most Dynamic products with a single command.

Even if you typically only install UniBasic, a combo license means your system is ready when you need access to dL4 for features not in UniBasic, such as socket/web connections and inserting or extracting data from Oracle, Microsoft SQL or MySQL databases. In the coming releases, we are adding significant features to more tightly intergrate UniBasic and dL4 - including the ability to swap from one language to the other.

dL4 Version 9 Features:

  • Global variables.
  • Ability to pass global variables to SPAWNed programs.
  • The ability to share global variables with SWAPped programs so that values can be passed back.
  • An option to call a subprogram whenever an error occurs. This can be used to log errors.
  • Improved support for converting IMS BASIC programs including conversion of GDIM statements, conversion of structure variables, and the addition of new intrinsic CALLs.
  • Enhancements to the Full-ISAM Bridge driver.

New dL4Term and dL4 for Windows Features:

  • The window preferences such as font size or color apply immediately to the current main window. It is no longer necessary to restart dL4Term to see how the appearance has changed.
  • A new "Attributes" dialog makes it possible to map attributes such as reverse video to specific colors or to a different attribute.
  • Combinations of attributes can be mapped to different combinations of attributes or colors.
  • The "Font" dialog provides check boxes to configure dL4Term to use maximum size windows.
